The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is opening the application round for the ICANN Fellowship Program taking place at the ICANN67 Public Meeting from 7-12 March 2020 in Cancún, Mexico.
The ICANN Fellowship Program is open to all applicants interested in, or already engaged in, the various aspects of ICANN‘s work in policymaking, the operation of the Domain Name System, and the security and stability of the global Internet. The goal of the program is to help create a more diverse and a broader base of knowledgeable constituents who can engage in the ICANN multistakeholder process and become the new voices of experience in their regions and on the global stage.

Since its creation in 2007, the Fellowship Program has built a strong group of fellows who are actively participating in ICANN communities and in other Internet governance entities in the Internet ecosystem. Participation covers a range of activities:

  • Writing articles and blogs
  • Giving online or in-person public comments about bottom-up policymaking
  • Participating in Internet conferences and panel discussions
  • Joining working groups
  • Mentoring newcomers
  • Assisting our regional leaders
  • Becoming leaders themselves


Candidates from all regions and sectors are welcome to apply to the ICANN Fellowship Program.
Participants of the Fellowship Program must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be interested in, or already engaged in, the various components of ICANN‘s work in policy building, the operation of the Domain Name System and the security and stability of the global Internet
  • Complete mandatory ICANN Learn course(s); learn more here
  • NOT be involved in or associated with other ICANN supported travel programs at time of selection
  • Policy Forum applicants must have successfully completed an ICANN Fellowship
  • Have previously received no more than two fellowships; second and third time fellows must prove their involvement and engagement in one of the ICANN communities (learn more here)


Fellowship recipients are expected to:

  • Engage in Fellowship Program Mentoring processes
  • Complete additional required ICANN Learn courses
  • Attend the ICANN Public Meeting and required activities, including but not limited to ICANN Fellowship sessions during the ICANN Meeting
  • Network and interact with program alumni and community members
  • Complete the post-meeting survey

Travel will be booked by ICANN via its travel service provider. ICANN will not purchase any travel tickets for a fellow unless and until the fellow has all the necessary travel documents, including visas and in some cases transit visas, in their possession and has provided ICANN with pdf copies of such documents
For ICANNmeetings, a stipend not to exceed USD 500.00 will be provided to offset reasonable individual expenses (such as meals, transport to/from the airport and incidentals). One half of the allotted stipend will be provided to each participating fellow prior to the meeting; the second half of the stipend will be provided via wire transfer by ICANN upon successful completion of the ICANN Fellowship Program and submission of the post-meeting survey two weeks after the ICANN Meeting.
ICANN will defer costs incurred by fellows to obtain a visa, up to the USD 200.00 allowed in the ICANN Constituency Travel Support Guidelines.

KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation is an international non-profit organization based in The Hague, The Netherlands dedicated to the fight against tuberculosis (TB), still the deadliest infectious disease in the world. KNCV is an international center of expertise for TB control that promotes effective, efficient, innovative and sustainable tuberculosis control strategies in a national and international context. We are an organization of passionate TB professionals, including doctors, researchers, training experts, nurses and epidemiologists. We aim to stop the spread of the worldwide epidemic of TB and to prevent the further spread of drug-resistant TB.


KNCV incorporates innovative digital adherence interventions in the Tanzania financed by a grant from Stop TB Partnership’s funding mechanism, TB REACH. The grants reflect the growing global push towards the use of digital health technologies to enhance treatment outcomes. The interventions implemented involve improving TB treatment adherence and outcomes using a variety of digital health monitoring technologies for TB patients. The project aims to demonstrate the use of 99DOTS, a low-cost digital adherence technology (DAT) solution combining innovative medication packaging and adherence logging via mobile phone. The objective is to evaluate the 99DOTS platform as a viable tool for improving TB treatment outcomes and to address the global evidence gap for the utility of DATs.

Purpose of the Assignment

  • KNCV aims to generate a solid evidence base for the above described new tools and interventions as they are implemented in test sites; assisting the stakeholders in the Tanzania to apply these and facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience.
  • The operational research at the core of this assignment has two objectives: (1) determine the positive predictive power of 99DOTS to determine medication adherence; and (2) assess the acceptability of 99DOTS to patients and providers and assess the feasibility with which they are able to access & interact with the system
  • Your work will be diverse. You may conduct surveys, intervention studies, support analysis of surveillance data, carry out operational research, and provide epidemiological support to complex studies as part of the TB REACH project in the Tanzania in order to enhance evidence-based decision-making.
  • Your work will require close coordination with the Technical Officer of this project, and collaboration with the NTP.

Location: Geita Region

Activities within the Assignment

Develop project plan for implementation of the research protocol;
Get familiarized with the materials and tools of both the overall intervention (99DOTS technology) and operational research tools (IsoScreen assay);

Based on the approved research protocol and guidance from KNCV, train data collectors on urinalysis – applicable urine testing & interview protocol, appropriate consenting, and stigma & gender sensitivity issues;
Organize and support data collection;
Validate data received from studies;
Conduct statistical analyses; and collaborate with KNCV research team;
Ensure the confidentiality of the study participants and data collected will be maintained
Participate in scheduled results dissemination activities;
Contribute to reports and scientific articles on the basis of the research conducted.

Reporting Channels

The Research Coordinator reports to the KNCV Tanzania Country Representative.

Timeframe: Short term assignment from August – December 2019 (5 months) with the opportunity to extend based on performance and project continuation.

Who are we looking for?

MSc or corresponding degree in epidemiology, health economics, statistics, medicine, pharmacy, or in international health
Knowledge of and experience with epidemiological and statistical analysis;
Knowledge of and experience with quantitative and qualitative epidemiological research techniques;
Skills in applying statistical software for data validation and data analysis;
Ability to work as part of a team and independently;
Ability to cope with stress and to organize and prioritize workload;
Excellent oral and writing skills in English and Kiswahili;

Key Accountabilities

  • Preparing a weekly program of work for the crop agronomy section with the help of the Assistant Agronomist.
  • Collecting, producing, disseminating and archive relevant agronomic data and reports.
  • Preparing a monthly progress report of the crop agronomy on salient activities and harvested trials.
  • Statistically analyze all harvested trials and to report on them in a well-defined scientific format.
  • Assisting the Assistant Agronomist in preparing annual current and capital budgets for the crop agronomy.
  • Perform any related duty as may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Core Competencies 

  • Should prove ability to demonstrate his/her capacity to work without constraint in a scientific environment (i.e. show that he/she is familiar with Laboratory equipment and field experimentation) and also the ability to work under minimum supervision.
  • He or she should be fluent in English and Kiswahili.
  • Should have an experience in research e.g. data collection, analysis and report writing.
  • He or she will need to show strong interpersonal skills and customer oriented approach i.e. his or her ability to interact and to work effectively with both team members and superiors.
  • Personal Specifications Bachelor Degree in Agronomy from a recognized University.
  • Very good computer knowledge in Excel, Word, Power point, Statistical packages (SPSS etc…) is a must.
  • He must hold a valid driving license.
  • Knowledge in sugar cane will be an added advantage

Reporting Lines

The National Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist reports to the FAO Representative under direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme)

Tasks and responsibilities:

The National Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist will undertake the following duties:

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Tanzania and working closely with the Assistant FAO Representative

(Programmes), the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer will perform the following duties:

Regularly review, implement and maintain FAO Tanzania monitoring and evaluation system, which includes: developing M&E work plans, designing monitoring and reporting tools, templates and guidelines;
Manage the M&E functions of all FRURT major projects and provide quarterly alerts on levels of progress; and risks of projects implemented;
Review and Monitor project work plans to ensure implementation and reporting;
Analyse monitoring data and produce reports that show progress in achievement of outputs and outcomes, reasons for not achieving results and recommendations for improvement and lead the process of dissemination and suggest avenues and modalities for implementation of findings and recommendations;
Liaise with communications officer and AFAOR – Programmes to document good practices, success stories and lessons learned for organizational learning and improvement;
Take lead in the maintenance of M&E systems; including tools, databases as well as the continuous provision of information from monitoring data;
Design a monitoring tool for FRURT Resource mobilisation efforts towards the CPF and regularly provide progress reports on this aspect
Design monitoring tools to support easy identification of impacts of training undertaken through various FRURT projects
Work closely with the Programme team, to undertake monitoring of FAO’s UNDAP activities and assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual implementation reports per UNDAP requirements;
Undertake other duties as might be assigned by the FAO Representative


Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree in Economics; Social Science; development studies; Agriculture; Natural Resources Management or related field.
At least 5 years of experience in design and implementation of M&E in development projects implemented by National/International bodies. Experience in Programme Management and implementation.
