HSE Technician

We are looking for a responsible HSE TECHNICIAN to facilitate compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines to be a part of our Project. You will provide advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations. You will also be on a constant lookout for violations.
Yapi Merkezi have fulfilled all the technical and financial requirements for designing and constructing the high-speed electric railway line in Tanzania. The project is Railway construction and the work locations will be Kilosa, Dodoma.

Responsibilities– Support the development of OHS policies and programs

  • Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
  • Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures
  • Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation
  • Initiate and organize OHS training of employees and executives
  • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment)
  • Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
  • Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
  • Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
  • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management
  • Write and submit concrete and accurate reports on incidents
  • Adhere to established medical protocols and procedures as well as legal guidelines and health and safety standards
  • Requirements / Qualifications- Diploma / BSc / BA in safety management, engineering or relevant field is preferred

Possess safety certificate from OSHA

  • Proven two years of professional experience
  • In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA/EPA) and procedures
  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
  • Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  • Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus

Position: ART Outreach Nurse/ Clinician

Position overview
Works in collaboration with the other members of the mobile team (and regional and district authorities) to offer high quality HIV counseling and testing, family planning services, screening and referral for STIs, gender-based violence, TB, alcohol and drug use, linkages, HIV care and treatment services to clients in their assigned region. More specifically, the clinical team members will:
  • Provide ALL Sauti biomedical services (HTS, FP, screening for TB, STI, Gender based violence, alcohol and drugs)
  • Enroll clients into ART outreach service and provide clinical care to HIV infected stable clients through ART outreach service including laboratory sample collection
  • Meet with district officials, community leaders and partners to introduce and schedule community ART services.
  • Collaborate with the CBHS providers, Regional coordinator and others to initiate and/or participate in demand creation in targeted communities.
  • Identify opportunities for the program to increase demand, efficiency and quality of program delivery.
  • Participate in the collection and reporting of ART outreach data as required by the program. And ensure proper clients records keeping and reporting
  • Stay current in knowledge in the field of HIV in general.
  • Ensure standard of care and conduct regular charts review
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with colleagues and local officials.
  • Perform other duties related to providing community ART as required.
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a licensed nurse, nurse/midwife, clinical officer, assistant medical officer or medical officer in good standing.
  • Experience working with populations at high risk for HIV, conducting outreach testing, and/or in provider initiated counseling and testing, and family planning services, desirable.
  • Must be willing to be based in assigned region with extensive (weekly) travel. Must be willing to work off and unusual hours. Travel up to 80% of the time.
  • Must be physically fit to assist with set up and break down of services in sites.
  • Must demonstrate self-management (i.e. motivation, dealing with pressure, adaptability)
  • Must be highly flexible to accept dual roles and extra tasks as assigned by the site coordinator.
  • Additional experience with ART, community counselling, mobile HTS, Family planning and GBV is desirable.

IRC’s Research and Innovation (R&I) Unit brings together a multi-disciplinary team combining IRC’s commitment to rigorous research and evidence-based programs with new approaches to designing, testing and scaling breakthrough interventions for the humanitarian and development sector. The Research, Evaluation and Learning team helps the IRC serve people affected by crisis with the most effective and efficient programs; designing and rigorously testing interventions, supporting the IRC in interpreting and applying existing research to develop high-quality, evidence-based programs, and conducting cost efficiency and cost effectiveness analyses to ensure the best use of our resources. The Airbel Center – IRC's Innovation Lab – aims to design, nurture, and scale new humanitarian interventions and delivery models by applying best practices from the behavioral sciences, human-centered design, rapid iteration, and multi-disciplinary problem-solving in the humanitarian context.

The Tanzania Research and Innovation Hub is a collaboration between the IRC, Innovations for Poverty Action, and the Behavourial Insights Teams. This Hub aims to enable adaptive project design, small-scale pilot studies, and larger-scale impact evaluations in Tanzanian refugee camps and surrounding host communities to improve outcomes for crisis-affected populations and create more impact for every dollar spent on aid.

The Research and Innovation Hub is an exciting initiative that will work in close coordination with IRC’s operational work in Tanzania and globally. IRC in Tanzania works in the sectors of health, education, protection and empowerment to provide humanitarian support to hundreds of thousands of refugees and Tanzanian host communities.

Key responsibilities:

Based in IRC offices in Tanzania, the Tanzania Hub Coordinator will be responsible to coordinate with Hub partners on:

Tanzania Hub Launch:

  • Coordinate with Hub partners to ensure the development of:

o Tanzania Hub Strategy and priority focus areas, to be reviewed on an annual basis

o Overall business development strategy, in collaboration with Research & Innovation Business Development staff and BD teams with other Hub Tanzania partners

o Tanzania Hub communication strategy, including communicating the Hub launch with all relevant stakeholders

Tanzania Hub Coordination:

Tanzania Hub Project Leadership and Support

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s in development studies, social sciences, or other relevant field, or a Bachelors’ degree with significant field experience
  • Work experience: 3-5 years of progressive experience. Field experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in research and innovation in the humanitarian or development sector
  • Excellent organizational skills: the ability to multi-task, learn quickly, and work independently and productively in a fast-paced and detail-oriented environment
