Responsibilities
•Provides administrative assistance to the Head, LSS, including technical assistance in the e-Performance process and support in the drafting of submissions.
•Handles all correspondence to and from the Head of Section, responds or drafts responses to a wide range of correspondence, inquiries and other communications; maintains the calendar for Head of Section.
•Prepares processes and follows up on administrative arrangements related to Language Support Services, including in the Umoja system.
•Takes follow-up actions, on her/his own initiative, relating to various administrative issues in order to ensure smooth operation of the Section.
•Provides guidance to staff with respect to administrative procedures, processes and practices in coordination with the appropriate departments.
•Provides orientation and support to new staff members upon their arrival. Liaises with ITSS concerning LSS network security and access issues. Maintains and updates LSS rosters and databases.
•Under the supervision of the Head, LSS, the incumbent performs the following tasks independently: coordinates and monitors the progress of contractual translation; provides administrative assistance to ensure compliance with translation requirements, negotiates deadlines with the selected contractors. Takes the required actions in the Umoja system relative to outsourcing work. Prepares reports for budget- and statistics-related purposes and analyses requirements and expenditure. Administers attendance.
•Performs any other ad-hoc duties as required, including language-related tasks (proofreading, summary or sight translation, referencing) and document processing.

English and French are the working languages of the Mechanism. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written Kinyarwanda, English and French is required. Working knowledge of other languages is an asset.

Assessment
There may be a technical test followed by a competency-based interview.

Responsibilities
The incumbent of the post translates and/or revises a variety of texts from French and English into Kinyarwanda and from Kinyarwanda into French, respecting the deadlines and using the appropriate terminology. S/he should be capable of working independently to a large extent. S/he must further aim at a high standard of accuracy, consistency and faithfulness to the spirit, style and nuances of the original; observes the established terminology and usage; ensures, as far as possible, consistency with other translations produced in the Unit. Must maintain a certain speed and volume of output, due account being taken of the difficulty of the text and the specified deadline. S/he counsels translators with a view to refining their skills and overall performance and assist them in solving particularly difficult problems which require specialized knowledge and linguistic insight. Save the Children has been operational in Tanzania since 1986 with an initial presence in Zanzibar and now extending to the Mainland with multi-sector programming. Support the delivery of SCI sourcing strategy

Program Monitoring, Assessments, Evaluations and Reporting
Lead the MEAL team in supporting the emergency programmes, regional office in measuring achievement and progress toward program goals and results as well as development of MEAL systems for all projects;
Develop and maintain the Indicator Performance Tracking Tool and Output tracker per award and the entire project providing updates on a monthly basis
Lead roll out of a robust accountability strategy, and MEAL systems and processes to measure achievement and progress towards achieving project objectives/outcomes and results/outputs against indicators (indicator performance tracker tables, quality checklists, etc.).
Lead monitoring of program quality using quality bench marks and ensure that findings are shared with relevant stakeholders and explicitly fed back into programme decision making, incorporating accountability and learning.

This position is located in the Security & Safety Service, Registry, of the IRMCT Arusha branch. Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Security and Safety Service, IRMCT Arusha, the Security Sergeant, FS-4, reports to the Deputy Chief of Security IRMCT Arusha on all security operations and administration as assigned.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Deputy Chief, the Security Sergeant has the following principal tasks:
The incumbent will provide supervision of work in progress such as; detainee escort and monitoring, court controls, premise access controls, screening, surveillance, incident and emergency response, report writing, communication centre operations, weapons issue and alarm monitoring. Provide constant review and assessment of the security operation to appropriately mitigate risk by taking immediate action if necessary in case of emergency or by providing well thought out and presented suggestions, recommendations to improve current policies and regulations. Inspect and audit staff at work to provide feedback for development and clarity of requirements so the work process is compliant, understood, and accountable. Provides supplementary on-the-job training and instruction to staff under supervision. Co-ordinate daily arrivals/departures of accused, staff, VIPs, witnesses, contractors and visitors to ensure the policies of screening, access, information point and prisoner escort are compliant to policy, procedure and directives. Operator of the Security and Safety Service 24/7 control centre of operations. To provide an hourly scheduling of staff assignments to ensure there is a fit between operational objectives and resource applications to produce economies, efficiencies and effectiveness within rules and procedures. To manage the e-performance reporting system of officers assigned as first reporting Officer and to appropriately disseminate reliable information to other first reporting officers who may have staff assigned on a temporarily basis. Review, audit and update all documentation of instructions, guidance, directives, orders, records and logs to ensure they are relevant, accessible, accountable and correct. Collect pertinent information to produce a well written and relevant initial incident report required for the Security Investigations Unit. Provide information briefings and inspections prior to the commencement of operations. Ensure accountability, due care, proper use and reporting of malfunctions of all equipment assigned to the operational area of responsibility. Pulitzer Center Rainforest Journalism Fund 2019 (Up to $7,500)

Call for proposals is open for the Pulitzer Center Rainforest Journalism Fund 2019. The Pulitzer Center invites proposals for grants to journalists based in countries of the Amazon region reporting for local and regional outlets. The Pulitzer Center will fund costs associated with reporting projects on tropical rainforests, with an emphasis on issues that have gone unreported or under-reported in the local and regional media.
The supported journalism projects will focus on the following themes:

  • The tropical forests’ role in the overall climate equation and weather patterns globally, regionally and locally, and the resulting consequences for human life and living conditions (in broad terms) caused by deforestation
  • Deforestation drivers (in broad terms)
  • Solutions to halt deforestation (in broad terms)

Grant

  • The amount of individual travel grants will depend on the specific project and detailed budget planning. Most awards fall in the range of $2,500 to $7,500 but depending on project specifics may be higher.

Eligibility

  • Open to all journalists, writers, photographers, radio producers or filmmakers;
  • Staff journalists as well as freelancers of any nationality can apply.

  • A description of the proposed project, including distribution plan, in no more than 250 words
  • A preliminary budget estimate, including a basic breakdown of costs. Our typical grants cover hard costs associated with the reporting. Fixer/translator/driver fees are acceptable and stipends can be considered depending on the circumstances.
