Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation (Helvetas hereafter) is an independent Swiss development organization that is building capacity in about thirty countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. We bring about real change in the lives of over three million disadvantaged people every year. We implement development projects in the areas of water and sanitation, agriculture and nutrition, education, economic development, democracy and peace, and climate and environment.
Helvetas has been working in Tanzania since 2011 in Singida, Arusha, Manyara, Shinyanga, Morogoro and Dodoma region implementing agriculture improvement and skills development related projects. In 2017, Helvet-as in collaboration with the Tanzania government, specifically the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training and Ministry of Labor, Employment, Youth and people with disabilities, conducted a Labor Market Analysis to identify skills gap among employed and unemployed youth, employers and vocational training providers in Dodoma and Singida regions.
The findings from this study informed the design of the Youth Employment through Skills Enhancement (YES) project. The project is implemented in Dodoma City and Singida rural district with the goal of increasing employability opportunities for the marginalized youth aged 15-30 years of age by equipping them with skills that are relevant to the labor market need.
